en: The results are shown after analyzing the harmonic content present at a point in the substation of Sevilla, in CENS SA ESP (Colombia), where the THD exceeds the limit proposed by the Comisión de Regulación de Energía y Gas (CREG). The implementation of a passive filter as compensation strategy is proposed, where the power factor correction is allowed by the capacitor, considering the electrical characteristics of the network and present resonance points on it; this implementaton is proposed in order to prevent possible damage to the components of the filter and inserting extra levels and unwanted resonances to the network under study. DIgSILENT Power Factory software system simulations were performed to confirm the response of the filter connection, satisfactory results were obtained thanks to careful tuning of the proposed strategy.>>>

en: During the observation of some phenomena in medical science it is common to find complex bioengineering systems, due to the multiple interactions of these with the environment, or the interactions within their subsystems. When these systems present a failure, most specialists work autonomously so the diagnosis is not comprehensive and the problem does not solve it at all. The systems science allows the study of the situation, in order to implement or optimize complex systems and it helps to integrate knowledge from different disciplines through a structured process, to give a comprehensive solution. So the systems science is seen as a valuable diagnostic tool for bioengineering systems. This paper presents a diagnosis of a knee tumor prosthesis, as an example of a bioengineering system. The purpose of this device is the reconstruction of lower extremities using the technique of arthrodesis. Although the prosthesis has presented a good performance, there are critical situations that have caused the system failure. The application of the Checkland methodology is proposed as a means to obtain information about the possible causes of a failure and provide a global solution that includes emotional, physical, social and economic factors of the system.>>>

en: In the last few years, engineering has begun to study about the organic materials like the vegetal fibers which can be found in abundance around the world, such as fibers extracted from plants like the sisal, abaca, toquilla straw, cotton, silk, bamboo, balsa wood, rubber, rattan, etc. Actually, the fibers are being used in more amount. People use single fibers for handicraft reasons or combined fibers with other materials to make a composite with some mechanical properties of elasticity, fragility, fatigue and resistance that are applicable to different areas of engineering. In this article we use different fibers extracted from the banana stem combined with the polyester resin as matrix. Some fibers were treated chemically using a mixture of sodium chloride with water. The specimens of composite material, previously designed with the Standard ASTM D790, were means of machines of universal tests of traction and flexion used for fibers, there were obtained the efforts of traction and flexion that can support these composite materials for study, analysis and applications: structural, automotive, textiles, among others.>>>

en: The modeling of the cooling of a piece is vital to obtain castings with the required quality. In our case the part is taken as study material is a rolling mill, a piece that requires a high quality working conditions in which its work. This article aims to further demonstrate the importance of using these predictive techniques that both bring to the economy of a company. To carry out this work, identified the key elements of the casting technology and conducted a search on the main physico-chemical data of the metal used, this very complex element by the characteristics of metal to use. As a result of the evaluation could be seen the cooling of the piece over time, besides being able to confirm the importance of simulation for parts with high quality and cost requirements.>>>

en: In an operating machine laboratory, the noise sometimes exceeds the appropriate levels. As a result, it becomes in noise pollution. In this paper, a noise reduction software for such laboratories is presented. A neural network was developed with the NI LabView 2013 Academic code. It was used in the dynamic noise cancellation, The Virtual Instrument (VI) of the system consists of a front panel and a functional block diagram. The delta rule was used as the learning algorithm for an adaline (ADAptative LINear Element) network. This network, featured thirty delay blocks. Each one holds back the input signal for an established period. In this way, a window FIR filter was developed. In its learning algorithm, the neural network attempted to match the noise produced by the machines. The VI had the NI MyDAQ board as an input interface, where the input signals were obtained from electret microphones. In the functional block diagram, the parts of the system are shown. They are the noise suppressor, the LMS algorithm and the input and output reading blocks. For this purpose, the output signal was sent to a loudspeaker. The error plot graph shown, points out that the learned signal had a high degree of likeness with the noise. By subtracting the learned signal to the input mix, the noise was reduced, proving the effectiveness of the system.>>>
