en: The international distributive justice debate has traditionally focused on a normative discussion about the scope of the obligations of the citizens of the rich countries to the global poor. The various positions assume certain empirical economic notions when making judgments about the justice of the international economic order. Depending on the economic theory held as valid, the same normative position may justify diametrically opposed configurations of the international economic institutions. This article seeks to make explicit the empirical notions underlying normative positions, and proposes an overlapping economic consensus to reach a basis for the neutral justification of claims about the justice of the international economic order.>>>

en: This paper attempts to elucidate the meaning of the controversial Platonic statement in relation to the peculiarity in the literary accounts which, in spite of being false, contain at the same time certain truths (R. II 377a6). Furthermore, there seems to be contradiction in the fact that Plato critiques those writings and still proposes using others equally false. I analyze three possibilities to disambiguate the meaning of pseûdos in these contexts —“false” would point to fiction or to a verbal lie or the character of one of the two levels (factual or normative) which would comprise a literary account; and I support the fact that, for Plato, the undesirable falsity is only the one related to the typological core comprised in those accounts.>>>

en: Gricean pragmatics is one of the mainstreams in philosophy of language and linguistics. It has been instrumental in fully understanding fundamental aspects of intentional communication. However, this theoretical tradition has not been especially concerned with the transmission and recognition of unintentional meanings, for example meanings evoked by Freudian slips, unintended puns, and slips of the tongue. Here I aim at showing that the study of such unintentional meanings is relevant for a general theory of utterance production and utterance comprehension. Neurocognitive linguistics (Lamb 1999, 2004 and 2013) has approached those unintentional meanings and has explained how the linguistic system of speaker or a hearer is organized and how it works, and it also figures as an interesting complement of pragmatics.>>>

en: This paper offers a new interpretation of John Austin’s views both on assertion and on adverbs, as result of which an expressivist thesis concerning the semantics for action sentences is advanced. First, Austin’s analysis of assertion based on various, specific assertive forces and his remarks on adverbs are systematically connected in order to obtain assertive schemata for action sentences. Finally, those schemata are put to work as the expression of inferential commitments implicit in argumentative practices of different sorts (exculpatory, justificatory and illustrative) in the deployment of which both logical contrariety and contradiction are exploited.>>>

en: In this article we present first two arguments about the void and the infinity, confronting Badiou both with Nancy and Lacan. We propose then an explanation of how the concept is articulated, both in philosophy and in psychoanalysis, in the light of such complexities and imbricated relationships among the diverse thinking dispostives that they imply.>>>

en: The purpose of this work is to give a general sketch of an analogical hermeneutics. I start with a brief historical survey of hermeneutics and of the notion of analogy. I then put together both terms and explain how an analogical hermeneutics can avoid the faults of both univocism and equivocism in interpretation.>>>

en: In “Essential Elements for an Analogical Hermeneutics", Mauricio Beuchot seeks to place his analogical hermeneutics in a position between what he calls univocism and allegorical hermeneutics. In this commentary I intend to show, taking into account that the theoretical goals of hermeneutics are not so different from those of analytical theories of interpretation, that the debate over the role played by extralinguistic elements in interpretation is much more complex than what Beuchot’s trilemma suggests.>>>

en: In this paper I analyze Mauricio Beuchot’s analogical hermeneutics by contrasting it with Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics. I argue that Beuchot goes back to the classical idea of hermeneutics as a method of interpretation (centered on the notion of analogy), and does not see it, as Gadamer does, as a phenomenology of understanding. However, Beuchot does not address Gadamer’s arguments against using hermeneutics as a methodology. Considered as a methodology centered on analogy, analogical hermeneutics overlooks other important interpretation resources. Finally, Beuchot adopts a correspondence theory of truth, which Gadamer objects and is incompatible with philosophical hermeneutics.>>>
