en: This paper analyzes how the structure and functioning of the system of cities in Mexico has changed in the framework of the economic models implemented in the country, drawing on the results of spatial interaction models. This article reviews three studies based on data obtained in 1966, 1986, and 2006 through classic gravity models, which permit a comparative analysis that reveals the transition from a hierarchical cities model in the closed-economy model to the emergence of regional-urban systems organized into networks in the midst of trade liberalization. Finally, it reflects on some causal explanations.>>>

en: The Telecommunications Reform entails an analytical and regulatory framework that will strengthen the regulatory body and structure, as well as foster competition. Its most advanced aspect –the shared network of wholesale broadband services– is also its principal limitation in terms of moving towards knowledge capitalism and the role of the telecommunications services industry in the growth of Mexico, the convergence process, and the mode of industrial development within the neoliberal development path. As such, the State not only needs to build up strong regulatory capacity, but also strategic management capacity to steer development in such a way that produces an authentic change in the industrial development mode, shifting towards innovation and bottom-up spatial and productive innovation in the services provided.>>>

en: In the presence of market failures, people need to find acceptable mechanisms to reduce uncertainty and maximize potential benefits. Because the principal failure is the asymmetry of information available, people resort to channels that transmit information to compensate for these drawbacks. These channels are networks of social relationships. This phenomenon is referred to as Social Capital, the network of people that an individual possesses, and whose use could bring about benefits. In the case of the financial market (especially the credit market), people make use of Social Capital when making decisions within the market. Through a series of linear models, drawing on data from wvs-2010 and enigh -2010, it was found that credit demand responds to a few variables that indicate individuals’ perceptions of their environment (information).>>>

en: Micro-enterprises have traditionally been considered a burden for development, from both the theoretical perspective of social sciences as well as policy praxis. However, for some years now, some of the specialized literature has presented evidence that despite their low productivity, the contribution of the informal economy to job creation and income in less-developed economies is significant. Given that other countries have begun to develop policies to encourage productivity in the informal sector, the main purpose of this paper is to understand, through a review of the regulations that support micro-enterprises, as well as new decrees and regulations, the current position of Mexico in this debate.>>>

en: In this article, the authors assert the need to research territorial integration at the micro- regional level, due to the fact that the biodiversity is so varied between each of the micro-regions in Mexico, not only in terms of natural resources, but also in terms of human resources. This has always constituted a major obstacle for regional integration, in spite of the multiple efforts made through numerous programs, which have failed for a variety of reasons, a principal one of which has been their lack of continuity.>>>

en: This research is focused on explaining the drivers behind individual decisions to migrate internally in Mexico. Migration essentially arises in response to the per capita income disparities between regions; as such, these flows are directly related to the production geography in Mexico. In that sense, the New Economic Geography provides that the forces of agglomeration have a geographic impact on migration due to the economic influence of wages and employment levels, derived from the concentration of economic activity in just a few regions.>>>
en: Sovereign debt crises constitute one of the most pressing shortcomings in the current state of financial globalization. The evolution of international sovereign credit markets has made sovereign debt restructuring processes more complex. Unlike in corporate bankruptcies, sovereign debt defaults entail systemic national and global macroeconomic implications. The current contractual approach to sovereign debt restructuring may become increasingly less effective in overcoming problems requiring collective action. However, this is the only viable option at present. Recent proposals from the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) could substantially improve this approach. Although interesting as an idea, the statutory alternative is still not feasible.>>>
